In 1913, the 69th Regiment Armory hosted an art exhibition that scandalized most visitors. A large part of the paintings and sculptures displayed at that time have since entered the collections of the greatest museums in the world. Armory Show introduced modern art in America, especially through the European avant garde (Fauvism, cubism), and triggered American artists for a new perspective. In association with the 1,300 works of art displayed, names including Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, Henri Matisse, Edward Hopper, Paul Cézanne, Fernand Léger, Edvard Munch, Wassily Kandinsky (the full list is just breathtaking!) confirm that Armory Show was the exhibition of the century.
